Indicators of Worn Brake Pads

Brake pads wear out incrementally with each brake pedal press. They are engineered with a warning indicator that contacts the brake rotor when little pad remains. The warning indicator will cause an audible screeching noise to warn the driver of the little pad life remaining. Our customers should schedule brake pad replacement in response to this audible warning or in response to any of these indicators of a brake pad problem:

Loud noises when braking described as squealing, screeching, grinding, or eardrum-piercing.

You have to push the brake pedal down farther.

Burning smell when you are driving.

Shaking or vibration in the steering wheel or pedal.

Brake system warning light.

Rear Brake Pads & Maintenance

Rear brake pads are components of the larger Volkswagen braking system that require routine maintenance. The rear brake pads are merely brake pads positioned at the rear wheels where they handle slightly less weight with each stop. The physics and mechanics involved with braking a vehicle generally cause the rear brake pads to wear slower and live a longer life compared to those in the front handling additional weight and pressure. We provide rear brake pad replacement as needed when the rear brake pads are worn out but those in the front have remaining life.
