The Volkswagen Transmission System
The VW transmission system is a complex arrangement of mechanical gears guided by an electronic control unit that orchestrates how the transmission diverts variable torque from the engine into the drive wheels. The complicated series of gears and pinions inside the transmission relies on a lubricating hydraulic oil that serves as a lubricant and a hydraulic fluid.
This means that transmission fluid transfers force between the internal moving components as well as keeps them lubricated and cool while transferring engine power into the drive wheels. The extreme environment within the Volkswagen transmission system eventually causes the fluid to break down, contaminate, or leak due to a faulty seal or gasket. If these happen, the fluid will require an exchange to restore reliable transmission system performance at factory specifications.
Symptoms of Bad Transmission Fluid
Defective transmission fluid will cause symptoms related to its thermal breakdown, contamination, or leaks. If you begin experiencing any of the symptoms, it is a wise response to schedule corrective fluid exchange to fix the problem before it causes worse problems. Here are the common symptoms related to defective transmission fluid:
- Delayed Gear Engagement
- Gears Slip in or Out Without Reason
- Strange Noises From the Transmission
- Dashboard Warning Light
- Shaking in The Cabin When the Transmission is Active
